Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a kitchen or food preparation role preferred
  • Ability to follow recipes and portion standards accurately
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Physical ability to handle kitchen tasks including lifting heavy items

Job Qualifications

  • Hotel experience preferred
  • Finger/hand dexterity to operate food machinery with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry goods weighing up to 100 lbs on a continuous schedule with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences including supervisors, coworkers, and the public

Job Duties

  • Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards
  • Start food items that are prepared ahead of time without over-preparing estimated needs
  • Date all food containers and rotate as per HEI Hotels and Resorts standards
  • Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull, and line setup
  • Note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • Assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • Return all unused food items to designated storage areas with proper covering and dating
  • Assist in setting up plans and actions to control food costs and reduce waste
  • Operate, maintain, and properly clean kitchen equipment including deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven steam table, tilt kettle, waffle iron, and flat top grill
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work regularly
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
