Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in pastry or baking in a professional setting
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- valid food handlers certification
- availability to work flexible, event-based schedules including weekends and some holidays
- ability to stand for extended periods
- good manual dexterity and attention to detail
- strong communication skills
- physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- commitment to food safety and sanitation standards
- willingness to learn and grow professionally
- team player mindset
Job Qualifications
- Previous pastry experience in a high-volume kitchen, hotel, or catering environment preferred
- culinary degree or pastry certification preferred but not required
- must obtain and maintain a Food Handlers Card from ServeSafe and other required compliance trainings
- active state food handlers certification with regular updates
- availability to work weekdays and weekends with some morning, noon, and evening shifts on an on-call/event-based schedule
- provide regular and consistent written availability to management
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
- ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- strong communication skills to interact professionally with employees, management, and guests
- physical ability to lift and move heavy objects such as boxes and equipment
- strong understanding of Temperature Danger Zone and cooking temperatures to ensure food safety standards
Job Duties
- Prepare a variety of pastries, desserts, breads, and other baked goods according to event menus and production schedules
- work independently or with minimal oversight by lead cooks, supervisors, sous chefs, or the executive chef
- assist with the design and plating of desserts for banquets, buffets, and à la carte service using intermediate culinary techniques
- follow recipes and presentation standards to ensure consistency and quality
- bake cakes, pastries, pies, cookies, tarts, bread, and prepare pastry creams, crèmes anglaises, ganaches, curds, mousses, and sabayons
- assemble multi-component desserts including entremets, plated restaurant-style desserts, or wedding cakes
- operate commercial ovens such as convection and deck ovens
- develop new dessert recipes, innovate with flavors, and ensure appealing presentation
- adapt dessert offerings to seasonal ingredients and create themed or special event desserts
- maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and storage areas
- monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- communicate professionally and respectfully with employees, management, volunteers, and guests
- pursue continuous growth and improvement of culinary skills by learning from higher positions
- wash culinary and service dishes and utensils and maintain kitchen cleanliness
- perform other duties as assigned
