The role of the Pastry Cook at Tao Group Hospitality is an exciting opportunity for a skilled culinary professional passionate about pastry arts and baking. This full-time position, offering a competitive hourly wage of $23 to $25, involves planning, organizing, and maintaining the activities of the pastry department to uphold the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and cost control. The Pastry Cook will be responsible for creating a diverse range of baked goods aligned with menu specifications, developing innovative dessert ideas to generate additional revenue, and implementing operating standards to ensure smooth and efficient pastry operations.

This role requires leadership qualities to guide and motivate the pastry team, assuring readiness for service, adherence to company standards, and clear communication of expectations. The Pastry Cook will also manage inventory, food safety compliance, and maintain meticulous documentation including station checklists, inventories, and recipe resources. Collaboration with other departments and close coordination with the Executive Chef and Executive Pastry Chef will be essential for menu development, special event planning, and continuous process improvement.

Job Qualifications

  • Previous baker or pastry experience preferred
  • experience in a high-volume culinary operation preferred
  • two-year college degree in Culinary or Pastry Arts from an accredited institution or equivalent
  • minimum of five to seven years of pastry experience in a fine dining environment
  • possession of or ability to possess all state-required work cards

Job Duties

  • Lead the team in their daily responsibilities
  • ensure all items are ready for service
  • maintain company standards while creating desserts
  • create baked goods based on menu specifications
  • develop creative ideas to generate revenue
  • develop and implement operating standards for the pastry department
  • organize and maintain pastry department documents including station checklists, dessert inventories, recipe book, and Food Bible
  • communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the pastry team
  • assign and instruct pastry team in details of work
  • observe performance and encourage improvement
  • manage inventory, ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained for smooth restaurant operations
  • comply with health and safety laws ensuring sanitary conditions
  • report any maintenance or repairs needed
  • prevent the spoiling and contamination of foods by enforcing proper sanitation practices
  • inspect delivery of food to ensure quality
  • make menu recommendations for future development, holidays, special events, and promotions
  • attend mandatory staff and pastry team meetings
  • keep work area clean and organized
  • demonstrate positive leadership characteristics
  • maximize restaurant profitability through effective control of food and labor costs
  • maintain compliance with company policies, city, state, and federal laws
  • assist and or complete additional tasks as assigned
