Job Description

Gaylord Hotels, part of the Marriott International portfolio, is renowned for its outstanding expertise and leadership in hosting meetings and creating extraordinary experiences. As a premier hotel and resort brand, Gaylord delivers vibrant environments, exceptional services, and thoughtfully crafted programming that bring people together in meaningful ways. The company prides itself on its team, known as STARs, who embody creativity, entrepreneurship, and a genuine dedication to offering warm and heartfelt service to every guest. Joining Gaylord Hotels means becoming part of a vast collection of global brands under Marriott International, where endless career opportunities await, along with the support and resources to help you thrive personally and professionally.

The role of a Cook at Gaylord Hotels is integral to maintaining their commitment to quality and excellence. This position requires preparing and cooking food in strict adherence to recipes, quality standards, presentation guidelines, and food preparation checklists. The cook is responsible for ingredient preparation including portioning, chopping, and appropriate food storage prior to use, ensuring all steps in the cooking process are performed safely and with precision. A key aspect of this role involves the safe and appropriate use of baking and measuring tools, kitchen equipment, and appliances to prepare baked foods effectively. The cook must strictly follow food safety handling policies and procedures, including maintaining personal hygiene, to guarantee the wellbeing of guests and staff.

In addition to food preparation duties, this role includes monitoring and maintaining the correct temperatures for kitchen appliances and food, promptly reporting any concerns to management. Maintaining a clean and sanitized kitchen environment is essential, as is setting up and breaking down workstations in compliance with sanitation and cleaning procedures. The position also involves monitoring the quality of the food prepared and portions served throughout the shift to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.

Beyond the culinary tasks, the cook is expected to uphold all company policies and procedures relating to safety and security, including reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to managers. Professionalism is key, including maintaining clean and appropriate uniforms, protecting company assets, and preserving confidentiality of proprietary information. Clear and professional communication, both in person and over the phone, is required to support teamwork and a positive work environment.

Physical demands of the job include moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing items weighing up to 25 pounds independently, navigating sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces, and enduring extended periods of standing, sitting, or walking. This physically active role requires flexibility to perform bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping movements regularly.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and less than one year of related work experience. While supervisory experience is not required, the candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow within the dynamic team-oriented culture of Gaylord Hotels. The cook role offers an opportunity to start or deepen a career in the hospitality industry while contributing to the exceptional guest experiences that define Gaylord Hotels and Marriott International.

Marriott International is committed to equal employment opportunities, embracing diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The company values associates from all backgrounds and actively works to maintain an environment free of discrimination based on disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Qualified applicants with criminal histories will be considered in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws. At Gaylord Hotels, you are invited to be where you can do your best work, begin your purpose, belong to an amazing global team, and become the best version of yourself.
