Job Description
Orijin is a distinguished artisan bakery located in the vibrant heart of Downtown Ann Arbor. Renowned for its handcrafted breads, viennoiseries, pastries, desserts, and seasonal baked goods, Orijin prioritizes exceptional craftsmanship, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality in everything they create. The bakery has built a reputation for delivering premium baked products that not only satisfy taste buds but also provide an authentic artisan experience. Their commitment to quality and community makes Orijin a beloved local establishment among customers and wholesale partners alike.
At Orijin, the team believes that exceptional baking begins with exceptional people, creating an environment that fosters passion, skill development, and collaboration. This dedication extends beyond their products to the workplace culture, where employees are valued and supported through various benefits aimed at both personal well-being and professional growth.
The role of Pastry Cook at Orijin is a remarkable opportunity for those passionate about artisan baking and eager to produce high-quality breads, pastries, and desserts. The position involves detailed preparation including mixing, scaling, laminating, shaping, proofing, and baking according to established recipes and production standards. The Pastry Cook is responsible for executing daily production schedules accurately to maintain consistency, freshness, and attractive presentation of all baked goods.
Working at Orijin means contributing to a dynamic bakery environment that serves retail customers, wholesale accounts, and special orders. The Pastry Cook will play a key role in preparing, packaging, and labeling products while ensuring the workspace is clean, organized, and well-stocked with proper adherence to FIFO inventory and food safety standards. Operating commercial bakery equipment like mixers, ovens, proofers, and sheeters safely and efficiently is essential.
In addition to production tasks, the Pastry Cook supports seasonal menu changes, recipe implementation, and new product development, helping to foster a positive, team-oriented culture. Orijin values open communication within the bakery team, encouraging employees to contribute ideas and grow alongside the business.
This full-time position offers various employee benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, paid sick time, discounted GoPass for commuting, and employee discounts on food. These benefits underline Orijin's commitment to their staff's health, work-life balance, and continued development in their culinary careers.
Candidates interested in this role should have previous bakery, pastry, or professional kitchen experience and demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization, and time management. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment without compromising quality is crucial. Availability for morning shifts, weekends, and holidays is required, as well as reliable transportation to Orijin's downtown location with adequate planning for parking and punctuality.
This is an ideal role for someone enthusiastic about artisan baking techniques and passionate about continuously improving their skills in a supportive, hands-on setting. Joining Orijin means becoming part of a team that values quality, tradition, and collaboration, providing a fulfilling career path in the artisan baking industry.
