Job Description

The resort is currently seeking a talented Pastry Chef to join their culinary team. This is a dynamic role focused on creating and preparing a wide array of pastry items that cater to the resort’s discerning clientele. The Pastry Chef will play a key role in menu development, ensuring that desserts perfectly complement the savory dishes offered throughout the resort’s restaurants. The role involves culinary creativity in developing new recipes from scratch as well as executing existing recipes with precision and consistency.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in basic pastry techniques such as mixing methods, pastry cream preparation, and curd cooking. Responsibilities include preparing glazes, fillings, toppings, and other pastry elements in accordance with company standards, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, and overseeing junior pastry cooks and support staff as needed. Administrative duties, inventory management, and scaling of recipes to meet production demands are also crucial components of the role.

This position requires working flexible schedules to meet the operational needs of the resort, including weekends and holidays. Physical stamina is necessary, as the role involves lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. The Pastry Chef will contribute to maintaining the kitchen’s efficient workflow and uphold food safety and quality standards that North Beach Village Resorts is known for.

Job Requirements

  • At least 2-year experience as a prep cook, pastry cook, or similar role
  • thorough understanding of basic pastry techniques such as mixing methods, making pastry cream, cooking the curd
  • ability to communicate with the public, hotel staff, and management in a professional manner
  • computer and phone literacy required
  • keep supplies filled and maintained
  • clean up spills and maintain proper sanitation
  • must have the ability to bend, squat, and frequently lift 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to follow instructions and help with various tasks, as needed
  • a high school diploma is a plus
  • ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Create and prepare all pastry items as required by the business
  • prepare, clean, and organize ingredients for use in the kitchen
  • come up with recipe ideas from scratch
  • prepare glazes, fillings, toppings, and other products per company standards and recipes given by the Executive Pastry Chef
  • plan the menu of desserts and pastry to complement savory items
  • ensure the kitchen is clean and sanitized at all times
  • calculate and scale recipes to determine the quantities of prep items needed on given production totals
  • oversee a team of junior pastry cooks and other staff members as necessary
  • maintain up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients
  • carry out administrative duties to maintain an efficient workspace
  • handling and reheating food
  • will be required to work varying schedules that reflect the business needs of the hotel
  • all other duties that are assigned
