Job Description
The Detroit Foundation Hotel is a standout independent hotel located in the heart of Detroit, offering an immersive hospitality experience rooted in the rich history and vibrant culture of the Motor City. Set within the historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters, this 100-room boutique hotel is intricately woven into the ongoing renaissance of Detroit, serving as a cultural, business, and artistic hub. The hotel’s design and atmosphere pay homage to the city’s illustrious past while actively contributing to its dynamic future as a national touchpoint for creativity and innovation. Beyond just providing accommodations, The Detroit Foundation Hotel strives to create a space where the essence of Detroit is captured through every detail, from the architecture to the experiences offered to guests.
The hotel prides itself on partnerships with local distillers, brewers, farmers, and purveyors of culinary goods, delivering a genuine and authentic Detroit experience. The ground-floor restaurant, The Apparatus Room, showcases this commitment to local flavor and community engagement, offering guests a taste of true Detroit hospitality. The hotel is managed by Aparium Hospitality Services, a company founded in 2011 with a mission to craft hospitality experiences that embody the spirit and poetics of their surroundings. Aparium represents a new kind of hotel brand that merges the strategic excellence of large hospitality firms with the warmth and individuality of boutique hotels, focusing on smaller burgeoning markets across the United States.
Aparium's philosophy encourages a collaborative, ego-free work environment where innovation and openness to new ideas flourish. The brand emphasizes the importance of cultivating meaningful relationships within the workplace, fostering a culture where every associate feels valued and celebrated. This reflects the company’s core belief in the power of People, Place, and Character. Here, associates are inspired to be proud of their identities and their communities, contributing their unique talents to create memorable experiences for all visitors.

The Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing an array of scratch-made pastries, including cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and other desserts, both following traditional recipes and developing modern, innovative offerings that keep the menu fresh and exciting.
In this role, a successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in culinary techniques relevant to pastry and baking and bring a high attention to detail along with creativity. They will be a collaborative member of the kitchen team, contributing valuable insights while also adhering to organizational standards of hygiene, safety, and efficiency. The ideal Pastry Cook thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at balancing multiple tasks, maintaining a neat workspace, managing ingredients and equipment, and leading or motivating junior staff where necessary.
Aparium’s kitchen culture demands respect, transparency, and humility; the Pastry Cook must engage positively with colleagues and leadership teams, embracing continuous learning and teamwork. This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about pastry arts to refine their craft, work in a supportive and dynamic setting, and contribute to a brand redefining hotel hospitality through unique local stories and culinary excellence.
