Job Description
Root Down is an iconic establishment in the modern Denver dining scene, celebrated for its farm-centric menu that features eclectic, globally-influenced seasonal cuisine. This vibrant restaurant places a strong emphasis on organic and locally-sourced ingredients, ensuring every dish is crafted with freshness and sustainability in mind. Root Down offers a perfect environment whether you're stopping by for a casual neighborhood bite or seeking a signature dining experience. The space itself is designed with a cozy yet sophisticated ambiance, enhanced by vintage touches throughout the interior and a large, four-season patio that offers stunning views of the Denver skyline. This unique combination of quality food, thoughtful sourcing, and inviting atmosphere has positioned Root Down as a beloved destination for both locals and visitors.
The role of Pastry Chef at Root Down is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and sustainable cooking practices. In this position, you will work within a high-volume kitchen environment where multitasking, prioritization, and effective time management are essential. The Pastry Chef is responsible for the preparation, production, and baking of a variety of desserts and pastries, utilizing knowledge of alternative flours and sweeteners to maintain Root Down's commitment to sustainability. This role challenges you to not only uphold high standards of food handling and storage but also to bring energy, positivity, and a collaborative spirit to the team. Candidates should be committed to continual learning and personal development while thriving independently and as part of a cohesive kitchen unit.
Starting wages range from $24 to $28 per hour on average, inclusive of tips shared through a tip pool system that distributes earnings equitably among team members. This base wage starts at $19.29 per hour plus tips, with increases based on tenure and proficiency. Root Down also supports its employees beyond wages with a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for those working four or more shifts per week (eligible after six months), life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with a 4% safe harbor match available after one year. Additional perks include a JOON wellness benefit, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) with share vesting tied to tenure, paid leave, employee discounts, and a family meal provided during shifts. The Pastry Chef role is not only about crafting exceptional desserts but also about being part of a forward-thinking team that values sustainable practices and holistic employee support.
