Job Description

Presbyterian Living is a well-established, independent not-for-profit senior living organization that has been serving communities since 1904. With locations throughout Evanston, Lake Forest, and Arlington Heights, Presbyterian Living offers a comprehensive continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care. Known for their deep commitment to creating compassionate, mission-driven environments, the organization focuses on providing exceptional services that cater to the unique needs of seniors and their families, fostering a strong sense of community and well-being for both residents and staff.

Within their Arlington Heights location, The Moorings, the Dining Department is actively seeking a motivated Pastry Cook to join their dedicated team on a full-time basis, specifically on the 2nd shift, working five days a week. This role offers an hourly rate ranging from $18.35 to $26.98, depending on the candidate's years of experience, along with a generous $1,000 sign-on bonus. The position is ideally suited for individuals passionate about culinary arts, particularly pastry preparation, who want to be part of a supportive and collaborative workplace.

The role of Pastry Cook at The Moorings of Arlington Heights invites candidates to contribute their culinary talents within a mission-driven community that values collaboration, compassion, and shared expertise among team members. Employees are encouraged to bring their strengths and passion to a workplace culture centered on wellness, independence, joy, and security. The team works together to ensure all residents experience personalized care and exceptional dining experiences. This position is vital in maintaining the high standards of food preparation and presentation that the community expects, fostering an uplifting environment where both employees and residents can thrive.

The Pastry Cook will be responsible for preparing various dishes from scratch, including pastries, accompaniments, and garnishes, while adhering to the highest food safety and quality standards. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work across multiple dining areas as needed, demonstrating thorough knowledge of preparation techniques applicable to all dining settings. Daily responsibilities include effective planning and organization of food production to guarantee timely service and consistency in portioning, plating, and presentation.

Working at The Moorings offers more than just a job. The organization emphasizes a people-centered culture that has earned a Great Place to Work® certification, recognizing its commitment to inclusivity and engagement. Team members receive comprehensive benefits designed to support their overall health and well-being, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, access to wellness resources such as onsite fitness and Wellhub, financial security programs like 403(b) with matching and commuter benefits, life and disability insurance, employee assistance programs, and opportunities for professional growth through tuition reimbursement, scholarships, mentorship, and career pathways. This supportive environment extends to community engagement events and access to spiritual and emotional support services.

This position represents an excellent opportunity for individuals with at least two years of restaurant or cafeteria cooking experience who hold at least a high school diploma or GED and demonstrate proficiency in English. While Serve Safe food handler certification is preferred, it is not mandatory. The ideal candidate is someone excited to make a meaningful impact, collaborate with like-minded professionals, and grow within a nurturing, family-oriented workplace. Presbyterian Living invites passionate individuals to apply and discover the difference they can make at The Moorings of Arlington Heights.
