Job Description

ELIA Group is a distinguished, multi-faceted, fully integrated real estate and hospitality company known for acquiring, developing, and managing premier commercial properties located in landmark destinations throughout the United States. With a reputation for dynamic innovation, ELIA Group does not simply observe trends but actively shapes and accelerates growth in both real estate and hospitality sectors. The company is recognized for its meticulous attention to detail that leads to award-winning projects, blending creativity and business acuity. ELIA Group’s portfolio includes some of the most vibrant and sought-after locations, making it a leader in creating unique environments that foster both community and commerce.

220 Merrill stands as ELIA Group’s premier upscale dining destination, offering an elevated take on contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on wood-fired specialties. Situated as a vibrant hotspot, 220 Merrill is known for its precision-driven hospitality, expertly crafted cocktails, and high-energy ambiance. It is a popular venue enjoyed by guests looking for refined dining experiences as well as unforgettable celebrations. Beyond a simple restaurant, 220 Merrill delivers a dynamic experience that combines sophisticated interior design, an expansive outdoor patio scene, and vibrant entertainment options. This combination allows the venue to serve as an ideal location for milestone celebrations, business gatherings, or stylish nights out, creating memorable moments within an energetic and upscale environment.

The current opportunity offered by 220 Merrill is for a Pastry Cook to join their culinary team during a busy season. This role plays a vital role in supporting smooth operations and maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and organization throughout the venue. The Pastry Cook will specialize in the production of high-quality, scratch-made pastries, efficiently preparing a wide variety of baked goods including cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and other pastries. This role also involves crafting components for complex desserts, where creativity and technical skill are essential.

Menu innovation is a significant component of the role, with the Pastry Cook collaborating closely with the Chef team and Culinary Director to develop new and exciting dessert offerings that refresh menus and captivate customers. Presentation and quality control are paramount, ensuring every pastry and dessert is both visually stunning and meets the highest standards of taste and craftsmanship.

In addition to baking duties, the Pastry Cook will be responsible for inventory and stock management, ensuring ingredient levels are monitored and ordered within budget while maintaining material quality and proper equipment upkeep. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Pastry Cook will assist in motivating pastry assistants and bakers, participate in staffing decisions including recruiting and training new team members, and uphold health and safety standards to guarantee a safe and hygienic working environment.

This role requires physical stamina and endurance, with regular standing, reaching, bending, and lifting heavy objects within a fast-paced and often noisy atmosphere. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work in hot kitchen conditions are essential for success. Compensation for this position ranges from $18.00 to $22.00 per hour, with added benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plans, employee dining benefits, competitive pay, and flexible scheduling. Working at 220 Merrill presents an exciting opportunity to join one of Birmingham’s most dynamic venues and contribute to delivering extraordinary dining experiences that set new standards in hospitality.
