Job Description

Proof of the Pudding is the proud and exclusive food and beverage partner for Zoo Atlanta's Special Events, where elegant spaces meet wild places. The culinary team at Zoo Atlanta is currently seeking an innovative, experienced, and motivated Pastry Chef to join this vibrant environment. This role is pivotal in supporting the production of scratch-made desserts, pastries, and bakery items tailored to complement event menus hosted within the zoo's exquisite event spaces. The Pastry Chef will collaborate closely with the Executive Chef to gather event information, set expectations, and craft an array of pastry offerings that reflect the highest standards of quality and presentation. This position requires a blend of culinary creativity, technical skill, and organizational acuity to manage high-volume production within specific timeframes effectively. The ability to maintain safety and sanitation protocols throughout the food preparation and service process is essential.

As part of the responsibilities, the Pastry Chef will be instrumental in executing and innovating Zoo Atlanta's pastry department while assisting in developing creative menu items that uphold the Proof of the Pudding's reputation for excellence. The role demands an individual who can plan and communicate event needs to both staff and associates efficiently, ensuring a seamless operation during events. Flexibility is a key attribute since the role may involve some travel, assisting other Proof of the Pudding locations based on business needs.

Job Requirements

  • 2+ years in a similar role or formal training in Pastry Arts
  • Impeccable integrity for the business, community, and team
  • Cooking knowledge and food handling skills consistent with modern training
  • ServSafe certified or available to receive training
  • Capable of producing consistent product in a timely manner
  • Excellent listening, communication, and customer service skills
  • Planning and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Self-motivated with strong verbal communication
  • Ability to maintain a safe, equitable, and inclusive work environment
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years in a similar pastry chef role or formal training in Pastry Arts
  • ServSafe certified or willing to receive certification

Job Duties

  • Support the pastry and bakery aspects of numerous coinciding events at Zoo Atlanta
  • Execute and innovate Zoo Atlanta's pastry department
  • Create products of the highest level of food quality and presentation
  • Produce consistent products in high volume within specific timeframes
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen and food service areas
  • Plan, understand, and communicate event needs to staff and associates
  • Assist in the development and implementation of creative menu items adhering to Proof of the Pudding standards
  • Work inter-departmentally to streamline events
  • Travel occasionally to assist other Proof of the Pudding locations as needed
