The Pastry Chef position at Harmons offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic bakery team focused on creating delicious and visually appealing pastries. The position is hourly and pays between $15.00 and $19.23 per hour, reflecting the combination of skill, experience, and dedication required.

As a Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for preparing, baking, mixing, assembling, packaging, labeling, and decorating a wide range of pastries in the bakery. In addition to these hands-on tasks, you will play a key role in maintaining quality standards to ensure that all bakery products meet Harmons’ expectations. This includes managing inventory and product levels, ordering ingredients and supplies, receiving shipments, and storing products properly. A critical part of this role is training other pastry chefs, fostering a collaborative work environment, and sharing best practices to maintain consistency and quality across all baked goods.

Customer service is a core aspect of this position. You will be expected to deliver exceptional service to all customers who visit the bakery, responding to inquiries and providing product recommendations. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the bakery is cleaned and sanitized daily, adhering to company standards for appearance and safety. Attention to detail is essential, as you will confirm pricing accuracy and signage, especially for promotional items.

This role involves close communication and coordination with the Store Director and Bakery Manager to ensure that production schedules, inventory levels, and customer demand are efficiently managed. Flexibility is important, as the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays is required. The position offers physical engagement, including standing and moving heavy objects, making it suitable for individuals who enjoy active work that combines creativity with practical skills.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred
one year of bakery experience preferred
current Food Handler’s Permit required
ability to prepare pastries with quality results
ability to read and follow recipes
basic math skills
knowledge of baking and assembling pastries
ability to interpret policies and procedures
excellent communication skills
ability to accept constructive feedback
must be mission-driven and self-directed
ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the Bakery provides
responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the Bakery
confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
ensures the Bakery is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearance
delivers excellent customer service to all customers
follows production sheets to ensure appropriate inventory levels of Harmons’ pastries
ensures the correct amount of ingredients and supplies are in stock
prepares, cooks, bakes, assembles, and decorates pastries for sale and to keep as back-stock
communicates openly and frequently with Store Director and Bakery Manager
