Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest cruise line operating exclusively within the United States, offering passengers a unique and intimate cruising experience along the nation's most iconic rivers. Featuring modern riverboats and classic paddlewheelers, the company prides itself on carrying no more than 200 guests per voyage. This ensures a cozy, small-ship atmosphere that emphasizes quality, personalized service, and immersion in America's rich cultural and natural landscapes. With a continually expanding fleet that includes newly constructed vessels, American Cruise Lines is a leader in the river cruise industry, offering travelers an elegant way to explore the country while enjoying top-tier hospitality and culinary services.
The Pastry Chef role aboard American Cruise Lines represents an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about creating exceptional desserts and baked goods in a dynamic, intimate setting. This vital position calls for a skilled chef with expertise in a wide range of pastry arts, including confectionery work. The Pastry Chef will be responsible for preparing all desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked items according to the daily menu matrix, under the guidance of the Executive Chef. Creativity is highly valued, as the chef is expected to continually experiment with new recipes and flavor combinations to delight guests and enhance their dining experience on board.
Living and working aboard the riverboats means the Pastry Chef will operate in well-equipped galleys with spectacular views, enjoy comfortable living quarters, and engage daily in a challenging but rewarding culinary environment. The role demands understanding of flavor pairings, aesthetic presentation, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure that each dish served embodies the quality and excellence American Cruise Lines is known for. Applicants must be comfortable adapting to the unique motions and conditions of life at sea and be ready to work a rigorous schedule onboard.
American Cruise Lines is driven by core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, which guide its culture and service philosophy. These values foster an inclusive, respectful workplace where employees can contribute meaningfully to the mission of sharing America’s story through unforgettable travel experiences. The company offers competitive compensation, including a daily rate and benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, and covered expenses including travel, room, board, uniforms, and training.
This full-time, exempt position requires seven days a week commitment while onboard for approximately 6-8 weeks at a time with two weeks of unpaid vacation. The physical demands and working conditions inherent to life at sea are significant, with the need to perform job duties efficiently amid the vessel’s motions and occasional lifting, bending, and stair climbing. The opportunity to join American Cruise Lines as a Pastry Chef is perfect for professionals who thrive in vibrant, team-oriented environments and seek to grow their careers delivering world-class cuisine in the ever-growing river cruise industry.
