The role of Pastry Chef at Morrison Living is a full-time position based at the Croasdaile Village located at 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Durham, NC. This position offers a schedule from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm with rotating weekends, and days may vary depending on operational needs, with further details provided upon interview. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of prior culinary experience, specifically in the art and science of pastry production. The pay range for this role is competitive, offering between $22.00 and $25.00 per hour, reflective of skills, experience, and contributions.

As a Pastry Chef at Morrison Living, the individual will be responsible for creating, planning, and supervising the daily production of high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods. This includes managing recipe adherence, ensuring consistency in presentation and portion control, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety and sanitation. The position requires leadership skills to supervise hourly pastry and kitchen associates, covering areas such as interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, and performance management. The Pastry Chef will also collaborate on seasonal menu planning, manage inventory through ordering and maintaining pastry supplies, and uphold all federal, state, and corporate regulations. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • supervises the daily production and distribution of all pastries, desserts and baked goods
  • ensures recipes and standards are followed, food costs are controlled and appropriate quantity is prepared based on established production needs
  • ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures
  • monitors and controls the maintenance and sanitation of the pastry kitchen and equipment to ensure a work environment that meets or exceeds federal, state and corporate standards and regulations
  • supervises hourly kitchen/pastry associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action, as appropriate
  • helps plan and implement seasonal menus
  • orders and maintains pastry supplies and products to ensure appropriate inventory levels
