Job Description

Waltonwood is a leading provider of senior living communities, committed to offering compassionate care and vibrant lifestyles to seniors. The company emphasizes creating warm, inviting environments where residents feel at home while enjoying nourishing and delicious meals. Waltonwood's Culinary Department embodies this mission by delivering exceptional dining experiences that enhance residents' quality of life. Meals and food activities are considered essential parts of each resident's daily routine, ensuring comfort, happiness, and nutritional well-being. The Culinary team works meticulously to maintain high standards of food preparation, presentation, and service. The environment fosters team cooperation, resident engagement, and a strong sense of community.

The Pastry Chef at Waltonwood plays a vital role within the Culinary Department by preparing all desserts and baked goods to the highest quality standards. This includes a wide range of items such as fresh bread, morning pastries, pizza dough, cakes, and pies, crafted from scratch. The Pastry Chef strictly adheres to accepted recipes and production specifications as outlined by the Culinary Service Director. Their culinary expertise ensures every product served is flavorful, texturally consistent, and visually appealing, contributing to the memorable dining moments that residents cherish. Reporting to the Culinary Supervisor or Culinary Service Director, the chef balances creativity with precision, working efficiently to meet demanding production schedules, particularly during peak hours. A key aspect of this role is maintaining cleanliness, safety, and orderliness in the kitchen and display areas. Customer service is also important, as the Pastry Chef interacts with residents, resolves complaints amicably, and considers dietary restrictions carefully.

This position requires a dedicated professional with experience in high-volume pastry operations, proficient in confectionaries, cake design, chocolate arts, and plated desserts. Education wise, the ideal candidate holds at least a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for an associate degree in baking or pastry arts. Knowledge of culinary etiquette, food sanitation, baking fundamentals, nutrition, and safety protocols is essential, with ServSafe certification being highly desirable. Physical requirements include manual dexterity, sensory skills, and the ability to handle demanding tasks such as lifting, repetitive movements, and exposure to various kitchen conditions. At Waltonwood, the Pastry Chef is not just a cook but a member of a caring team dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors through exceptional culinary experiences. The role emphasizes dependability, punctuality, teamwork, and a passion for excellence in pastry arts, all aimed at ensuring residents feel that "we save the best for last."
