The Pastry Cook role at Purple Potato is a critical back-of-house position. This role is where the magic begins, handling top-secret ingredients to produce some of the best donuts, cronuts, and pastries in the world. The Pastry Cook is responsible for maintaining the bakery's high standards in baking by demonstrating accuracy, excellent timing, and pride in making each pastry perfect. This position demands a clean-as-you-go work ethic, safety consciousness, and a pleasant, enthusiastic disposition throughout the shift.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in food preparation or bakery preferred
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to understand and follow safety and sanitation standards
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Must be able to work full-time
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Willingness to learn and accept coaching

Job Qualifications

  • Pleasant disposition, friendly, sociable, accommodating nature, and enthusiastic
  • Practice "Clean as you go" techniques to maintain a clean work area
  • Ability to make simple mathematical calculations
  • Must be able to read and communicate using the English language
  • Food service experience valued but not required
  • Experience with basic equipment repair and maintenance valued but not required
  • Bakery/cake decorating experience valued but not required
  • Croissant making experience valued but not required
  • Must have valid drivers license and ability to drive donuts for delivery valued but not required

Job Duties

  • Produce donuts that meet Purple Potato's standards by operating donut-making equipment
  • Prepare all ingredients necessary for pastry production
  • Complete a proper production schedule on a regular basis, always striving to minimize waste
  • Inspect all pastries and remove any that are misshapen, too small, or otherwise imperfect
  • Regularly clean and perform preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Demonstrate ability to convert weights and measurements using the United States metric system
  • Maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor
  • Practice "Clean as you go" techniques to maintain a clean work area
  • Demonstrate safety consciousness at all times and report all incidents to a manager
  • Assist in maintaining a high level of store sanitation and cleanliness
  • Report any equipment failure or issues to the manager in a timely manner
  • Consistently model all store policies, standards, and practices to ensure efficient processes are maintained and quality product is produced on your shift
  • Coach/train new employees in production
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
