The role of Pastry Chef at Rose Bakery is pivotal to maintaining and elevating the bakery’s reputation for excellence. Reporting directly to the Café Manager and Head Chef, the Pastry Chef is charged with leading the creative and operational aspects of the pastry department. This includes innovating and refreshing dessert menus that align with Rose Bakery’s ethos of natural ingredients and seasonal flavors, ensuring that every item offered delights the clientele both in taste and presentation. The position demands a high level of culinary creativity, technical skill, and leadership acumen to oversee the daily bakery operations efficiently.

In addition to baking, the Pastry Chef manages critical elements such as inventory control for baking ingredients, cost management, and hygiene enforcement. A major part of the role involves collaborating with management and owners to source quality ingredients and maintain cost-effectiveness. This leader also takes responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and organization across bakery workspaces, including the kitchen, dry storage, and walk-in areas. Furthermore, the Pastry Chef guides and instructs line cooks to uphold the highest standards of preparation and service.

Job Duties

  • Develop innovative and enticing desserts to refresh our menus and captivate the attention of our clientele
  • Prepare a wide variety of baked goods such as cakes, scones, etc.
  • Mix and bake a variety of pastry items including breads, batters, doughs, creams, custards, and beverage bases
  • Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar, etc.
  • Assist in sourcing and placing orders for both food and non-food items while keeping cost control in mind
  • Comply with and enforce hygiene and food safety standards
  • Regulate general cleaning and maintenance of all bakery areas including the kitchen, dry storage and walk-in
  • Provide line cooks with clear directives and guidance
  • Work closely with the Café Manager/Head Chef and Rose Bakery principals/owners
