The role of the pastry banquet cook at The Umstead Hotel & Spa is pivotal in delivering exquisite dessert experiences for banquet events held at the hotel. Reporting directly to the Pastry Chef and Pastry Sous Chef, the pastry banquet cook is responsible for preparing and plating a variety of desserts, including mousses, cakes, sauces, glazes, and baked goods such as scones, biscuits, and cornbread. This position demands a strong emphasis on quality, sanitation, and efficiency, consistently reflecting the Pastry Chef’s core values. The pastry banquet cook will manage the organization and cleanliness of the pastry workspace, uphold inventory standards in various storage units, and maintain professional relationships with associates across departments. This role requires a calm and organized approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively during peak hotel activity times, including weekends and holidays. The position typically involves early morning shifts from 5am to 1pm or 6am to 2pm and necessitates physical stamina for standing long hours and lifting significant weight regularly. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in a pastry or banquet kitchen
  • ability to stand for at least 8 hours
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • availability to work weekends and holidays
  • ability to work 5am-1pm or 6am-2pm shifts
  • strong attention to detail

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in pastry or banquet cooking
  • ability to follow recipes accurately
  • familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety standards
  • strong knife skills
  • capacity to work early morning shifts

Job Duties

  • Prep and plate desserts for banquet events
  • maintain quality and sanitation standards
  • organize and clean pastry work area

  • inventory produced items in storage units
  • communicate effectively with banquet and front of house teams
