Job Description

Loquat is a small and cozy Jewish bakery located in the vibrant Hayes Valley neighborhood. Our bakery is dedicated to sourcing, preparing, and serving the highest quality ingredients and pastries, all while honoring and exploring Jewish traditions and Middle Eastern flavors. At Loquat, we believe that food has the power to bring positivity, compassion, and connection both in the workplace and throughout our community. Our passion lies in crafting delectable baked goods that not only delight the palate but also celebrate cultural heritage and culinary craftsmanship.

We take pride in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where customers can enjoy our specialty items in a cozy environment. Our menu features a wonderful array of babka, laminated pastries, finished layered cakes, cookies, scones, and teacakes. As a small team, we emphasize collaboration and support, fostering a tight-knit bakery staff that thrives on shared values and a common goal of excellence.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a dedicated baker to join our passionate bakery team. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and excels both independently and in a team setting. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of pastries and baked goods, initially focusing on cake baking and finishing, tea cakes, and cookies. As you grow with us, you will be cross-trained on multiple stations including lamination and babka production, allowing you to expand your skills and contribute to various aspects of our production.

Working at Loquat offers a craft-driven environment where honing your baking talents and learning new techniques is encouraged. The role starts with shifts from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and may evolve to include additional early morning shifts from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM once trained. Weekend availability is a must, and we ensure that you receive a consecutive two-day weekend to help maintain work-life balance.

This is a full-time baking position with opportunities for growth within our bakery. As an integral member of our team, you will play a key role in executing our pastry menus developed by pastry management, managing kitchen flows, and maintaining high standards for cleanliness and organization. Beyond baking skills, we're looking for someone who embodies professionalism, punctuality, good communication, and kindness, helping us to maintain a positive and productive atmosphere for staff and customers alike.
