The position available is for a full-time Pastry & Cafeteria Cook at Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. This unique role requires versatility and passion for culinary arts, as the employee will perform dual functions during the week and weekends. From Monday to Friday, the employee will work as a Pastry Cook, responsible for preparing an array of breakfast pastries, desserts, and baked goods that meet the highest quality and safety standards. The role also involves supporting banquet and catering services, ensuring seamless execution by preparing pastries and desserts on schedule, maintaining inventory and minimizing waste, and actively contributing to the development of innovative seasonal dessert menus. Attention to detail, adherence to standardized recipes, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in kitchen workspace are vital components of this role.

On weekends, the role shifts to a Cafeteria Cook position where the focus is on preparing and maintaining cold and hot food items for cafeteria service. This includes setting up service stations, ensuring the visual appeal and quality of food served, managing restock and cleanliness, and providing consistent, efficient service to guests and employees alike. The role demands adaptability, teamwork, and a professional demeanor to manage high-volume food preparation and service in a fast-paced environment.

General responsibilities encompass maintaining professionalism and punctuality, collaborating effectively with culinary team members, performing duties with minimal supervision, and ensuring all kitchen equipment is used safely and properly. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months of food and beverage operations experience
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • Availability to support weekday and weekend responsibilities
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Frequent bending, reaching overhead, and squatting
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 lbs independently and up to 100 lbs with assistance
  • Ability to push or move items up to 70 lbs using a hand cart
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months of food and beverage operations experience
  • Previous cafeteria and/or entry-level culinary experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers within and across departments
  • Demonstrates calm, professional, and welcoming demeanor when handling questions or concerns
  • Basic math skills to understand and execute recipes accurately
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to safely operate kitchen equipment
  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and respond to hazardous situations appropriately

Job Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of daily breakfast pastries, desserts, and baked goods for all hotel outlets
  • Support banquet and catering events by preparing desserts and pastries to meet production timelines
  • Follow standardized recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications
  • Ensure all items meet quality, freshness, and food safety standards
  • Contribute to creative development of new and seasonal pastry offerings
  • Maintain proper inventory levels, assist with ordering, and minimize waste
  • Ensure all food is prepared and ready at least 30 minutes prior to service
  • Work efficiently to meet production schedules in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, including storage areas and equipment
  • Adhere to all health department and sanitation guidelines
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Prepare, stock, and maintain cold and hot food items for cafeteria service
  • Set up and maintain all service stations for meal periods
  • Serve and portion food during service while ensuring consistency and quality
  • Visually inspect all food before and during service to ensure quality standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and overall appearance of the cafeteria at all times
  • Restock food and supplies throughout service as needed
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, reliability, and punctuality
  • Work cohesively as part of the culinary team
  • Perform job duties with minimal supervision
  • Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organization across all kitchen areas
