Job Description

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is one of the largest and most diverse culinary schools globally, with campuses located in New York City and Los Angeles. Founded in 1975, ICE has earned a prestigious reputation for providing award-winning career training programs ranging from six to thirteen months. These programs cover Culinary Arts, Pastry and Baking Arts, Health-Supportive Culinary Arts, Restaurant and Culinary Management, and Hospitality and Hotel Management. With over 14,000 alumni who have gone on to become industry leaders, ICE continues to uphold its mission of excellence, innovation, and community building within the culinary world. ICE also offers extensive professional development courses such as Artisan Bread Baking, The Art of Cake Decorating, and Intensive Sommelier Training.

Apart from its career programs, ICE boasts one of the world's largest recreational cooking, baking, and beverage programs, engaging thousands of students annually. The institute serves as a hub for culinary enthusiasts and professionals alike, hosting upwards of 400 special events each year. The New York City campus, spanning 74,000 square feet, and the Los Angeles campus, covering 38,000 square feet, have been thoughtfully designed to inspire creativity, foster community, and facilitate cutting-edge culinary education. Significant achievements such as launching the LA campus in 2018, acquiring the Natural Gourmet Center in 2019, affiliating with the International Culinary Center in 2020, and introducing associate degrees in California in 2021 highlight ICE's commitment to growth and evolution in culinary education.

The role offered is for a part-time Pastry and Baking Recreational Chef Instructor at the New York City campus. This position involves leading hands-on recreational baking and pastry classes, adhering strictly to ICE's proprietary lesson plans. The instructor plays a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of food service and delivering an exceptional client experience. Beyond teaching, the chef instructor demonstrates proven techniques and foundational concepts in baking and pastry arts, ensuring that students not only learn but also enjoy a positive and engaging learning environment.

This position requires the chef to deliver clear, concise, and organized lectures, aid student and guest performance through active observation and interaction, and uphold rigorous standards of food safety, sanitation, and beverage management. The instructor will also be responsible for the preparation, setup, and breakdown of all class ingredients and equipment, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism. The schedule is flexible but demands availability during weekends and evenings to accommodate ICE's class and special event offerings.

Compensation for this part-time role is competitive, with pay rates at $160 per 3- to 5-hour recreational class and $220 per special event. Additional benefits include participation in a flexible spending account program, 401(k) retirement savings plan, and up to $650 per year reimbursement for tuition assistance, professional organization dues, dining allowances, or related educational materials. This opportunity is perfect for those passionate about pastry and baking arts and interested in shaping the culinary skills of both aspiring professionals and recreational learners in a prestigious educational environment.
