Job Description

The Compass Church is a multi-site evangelical church known for its vibrant community and deep commitment to discipleship and spiritual growth. With multiple campuses across the region, including the bustling South Naperville Campus, The Compass Church serves thousands of individuals and families each week through dynamic worship services, meaningful connections, and a variety of ministry programs tailored to all ages. The church seeks to foster a welcoming environment where people can explore and deepen their faith in Jesus Christ, find authentic community, and serve meaningfully within and beyond the church walls.

At the South Naperville Campus, the Pastor/Director of CompassKids serves a vital leadership role in shaping the ministry for children from birth through fifth grade. This full-time, salaried role reports directly to the Campus Pastor, Jon Kalvig, and is integral to the Campus Ministry team. The primary responsibility of the Pastor/Director of CompassKids is to oversee and grow a thriving children’s ministry that aligns with the church’s mission to disciple families and support parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes. This position involves strategic leadership and hands-on involvement to ensure that all children’s ministry programming, including weekend and midweek activities, effectively fosters children’s spiritual formation.

This leader is a key specialist within the church staff, possessing a deep understanding of child development, sound doctrine, discipleship principles, and effective ministry practices. They provide oversight for ministry philosophies, curriculum choices, volunteer training and coaching, budget management, safety, and security protocols. The Pastor/Director of CompassKids also collaborates closely with multi-site ministry leaders and supports the overall vision and outreach efforts of The Compass Church.

Engagement with the congregation is a priority, especially in weekend worship contexts where this Pastor/Director ensures an exceptional spiritual environment and connection for children and their families. Beyond direct ministry responsibilities, this person contributes actively as a valued member of the South Naperville Campus leadership team, participates in broader staff initiatives, and helps shape the direction of the campus as a whole. The ideal candidate embodies a strong spiritual maturity, demonstrates collaborative leadership, and is dedicated to nurturing the next generation’s faith in a way that honors biblical teaching and encourages ongoing discipleship.

The role demands a consistent presence both on-site during weekend services—including special events such as Christmas Eve and Easter—and during office hours for planning, training, and collaboration. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on children’s spiritual journeys while working within a supportive, mission-focused church community dedicated to following Jesus Christ and equipping families for lifelong faith.
