Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading destination for creative and celebratory needs in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as a prominent retailer specializing in arts and crafts, custom and specialty framing merchandise through its subsidiary, Artistree. The company is committed to fueling the joy of creativity and innovation for its customers, providing a vast range of products and services to individuals and families looking to create, decorate, and celebrate special moments.
This particular job opening is for a part-time Event Coordinator role within a Michaels store located in the Webster, NY area. The role centers around planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events – including children’s birthday parties – designed to provide an enjoyable and engaging experience for guests of all ages. This position is ideal for an individual who is energetic, enthusiastic, has excellent interpersonal skills, and enjoys creating memorable experiences in a retail setting. The hourly pay ranges from $16.00 to $18.80, reflecting the company's commitment to competitive compensation for part-time team members.
The Event Coordinator’s primary responsibility involves managing multiple events simultaneously, orchestrating details that transform the store environment into a space of creativity and fun. This includes instructing participants in craft projects, conducting face painting, managing party add-ons such as balloons and goody bags, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety before, during, and after events. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with clients and the store team to adjust plans according to client feedback and ensure complete satisfaction.
Besides the event-related duties, the role also entails delivering exceptional customer service in the store. This involves assisting customers with their shopping experience, locating products, promoting the store’s Rewards program, handling enrollments in Private Label Credit Cards, and supporting omni-channel sales processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The Event Coordinator will also participate in operational tasks such as truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and store cleanliness to uphold the brand promises and operational excellence.
The position demands a person capable of maintaining a friendly and efficient checkout experience while promoting the store’s vision and values through positive interactions. Cross-training in Custom Framing selling and production is also part of this job, expanding the skill set needed to serve a diverse customer base effectively. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy boxes, bend, reach, and operate ladders safely. The work environment consists of a public retail store, with climate-controlled public spaces and some non-climate-controlled stockrooms.
Michaels prizes inclusivity and compliance with legal standards, providing reasonable accommodations for individuals who need them to perform their job functions fully. The company offers robust benefits even for part-time team members, including health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Working at Michaels means you are part of an organization dedicated to creativity, community, and helping customers celebrate the joy of making and creating.
