Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has become the premier destination for enthusiasts and professionals who seek quality art supplies and creative inspiration. The company also owns Artistree, a custom and specialty framing manufacturer, adding to its comprehensive offering of products and services for creative minds. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration, providing a supportive and inclusive environment for both customers and team members. The company values innovation, customer engagement, and the importance of community, always striving to create a welcoming environment that encourages artistic expression and creativity.
This role, located at the Michaels store in Oceanside, CA, offers an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about customer service and event coordination within a retail arts and crafts environment. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The goal is to provide guests with a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience that enhances their visit to the store. The position integrates customer service responsibilities with behind-the-scenes operational tasks, making it a dynamic and varied role.
As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, you will be instrumental in managing multiple events simultaneously and creating memorable experiences for guests of all ages, from children to seniors. Your role will include guiding participants through creative projects, offering specials like face painting, managing event logistics, and ensuring client satisfaction. Communication with clients and team members will be essential, as you coordinate and adjust plans based on feedback. Administrative duties such as answering emails, making calls, and completing paperwork will support smooth event execution.
Moreover, the position requires assisting customers on the floor by helping them find products, delivering a fast and friendly checkout, and promoting Michaels' rewards and credit card programs. The job also entails participating in inventory and merchandising operations like truck unloading, stocking, and planogram maintenance. You will uphold company standards for cleanliness, safety, and customer engagement, ensuring a positive environment for both guests and coworkers.
The physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and using ladder equipment, reflecting the active retail environment. This full-time role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16.90 to $19.70 and may be eligible for overtime compensation subject to state and local laws. Michaels supports its employees with a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer match, flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, and more.
Michaels is committed to equal opportunity employment and inclusion, striving to accommodate individuals with disabilities and ensuring a welcoming workplace. The company fosters a work culture that values respect, teamwork, and a shared commitment to creativity and customer satisfaction. Joining Michaels means becoming part of a team dedicated to inspiring creativity and helping people celebrate the joy of making.
