Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating more than 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for creativity and celebration for both hobbyists and professionals alike. In addition to its extensive retail operations, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise. The company's mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by offering a wide range of crafting supplies, framing options, and expert advice to help customers bring their creative visions to life. Michaels is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, both for its customers and its Team Members.

The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in Bay-Pleasant Hill, CA, centers on delivering an engaging and streamlined experience for customers and guests by planning, coordinating, and facilitating in-store events such as children's birthday parties, craft classes, and other creative activities. This role is essential to ensuring that guests of all ages enjoy a fun, stress-free, and memorable visit when participating in Michaels events. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, often working with children and families, to create an atmosphere of creativity and joy.

In addition to event planning, the position involves delivering excellent customer service by helping guests navigate the store, locate products, and complete purchases efficiently. You will engage customers in the benefits of Michaels' Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and support omni-channel processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Operational responsibilities include receiving shipments, stocking, maintaining planograms, and ensuring store recovery standards. The role also requires adherence to all safety and company policies to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant environment.

Candidates must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and customers. Experience working with children and hosting children’s events is highly preferred, as well as retail or customer service experience. The ability to remain positive and respectful in diverse and sometimes challenging situations is a critical aspect of this role.

The role offers a base pay range of $17.25 to $20.30 per hour and requires the candidate to be physically able to spend significant time standing, moving throughout the store, and performing duties involving bending, lifting, and reaching. The work environment includes public retail settings that are mostly climate-controlled, with occasional outdoor tasks such as retrieving carts or unloading trucks and potential exposure to equipment in the frame shop.

Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. Team Members are supported through a range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts. This role is a fantastic opportunity for energetic, enthusiastic individuals passionate about arts and crafts and providing exceptional customer experiences within a retail environment.
