Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, with a strong online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has earned a reputation as the best place for all things creative, providing customers with a vast selection of art supplies, framing services, and project ideas to inspire creativity and celebration. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creativity and quality. As part of its mission, Michaels aims to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by offering high-quality products and exceptional customer service to millions of customers every year.

This particular role is based in the Fort Myers-Forum, FL store and focuses on event coordination within the retail environment. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, to provide guests with a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience. The event coordinator will be the primary point of contact for customers, engaging clients ranging in age from young children to seniors, and ensuring that every event runs smoothly while maintaining the high standards of the Michaels brand.

In addition to event coordination, this role requires strong customer service skills to assist shoppers in finding products, explaining store programs like the Rewards program and private label credit cards, and supporting omni-channel shopping services such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). The position encompasses a variety of operational duties such as stocking, merchandise recovery, and participating in daily store cleanliness, all critical to maintaining an inviting retail environment.

The event coordinator must be energetic, enthusiastic, and able to handle the stresses that come with customer-facing retail positions. Experience working with children, particularly in event settings, is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The coordinator will also assist with administrative tasks related to events, such as managing communications by email and phone and ensuring client satisfaction by adjusting plans based on feedback. The work environment is a public retail store with some physical demands, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting boxes, and sometimes accessing high shelves or outdoor areas.

Michaels values inclusivity and equal opportunity, providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals to perform their job functions. This role offers team members access to a comprehensive benefits package depending on eligibility, including medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k) with employer match, employee assistance programs, tuition and adoption assistance, and employee discounts.

Overall, the event coordinator position at Michaels is ideal for those who are passionate about creativity, enjoy interacting with customers of all ages, and thrive in a dynamic retail environment where no two days are the same. With a focus on delivering memorable event experiences and outstanding customer service, this role contributes to Michaels' mission to inspire and empower creativity in communities across North America.
