Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, making it the premier destination for creativity and celebration. Michaels is known for its wide product assortment ranging from art materials to home décor, framing solutions through its Artistree brand, and craft education through various in-store classes and events. The company focuses on creating a welcoming and successful environment where customers can explore their creativity, find inspiration, and purchase everything needed to complete their craft projects. Michaels not only supports its customers but also promotes an encouraging workplace culture for its team members, emphasizing inclusion, creativity, and customer satisfaction.
This position is a part-time role based in the Ann Arbor, MI store, focusing on enhancing the customer experience through event coordination and in-store support. This role revolves around planning, organizing, and executing events, including popular kids’ birthday parties and creative craft classes within the store, providing a delightful and stress-free experience for all guests. A key component of this position is interacting effectively with customers of all ages, from young children to senior adults, ensuring engaging, creative, and fun experiences that build a loyal clientele and promote Michaels’ brand values.
The Event Coordinator at Michaels is responsible for conducting party activities such as crafts and face painting, managing party add-ons like balloons and goody bags, and effectively communicating with clients and colleagues to ensure smooth event flow. Administrative duties, such as handling emails, calls, and paperwork related to events, are also essential to the role. Additionally, the Event Coordinator supports general store operations including assisting customers, maintaining merchandise standards, participating in stock handling, and adhering to safety and cleanliness protocols. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to juggle multiple events and tasks simultaneously while maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.
Moreover, this role demands an energetic and enthusiastic personality capable of handling the stresses of retail and event coordination while maintaining excellent customer service. The candidate must be proficient in communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with previous experience working with children and hosting children’s events preferred. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items, and move about the store, occasionally using ladders. Michaels fosters a supportive work environment that values diversity, inclusion, and reasonable accommodations to help employees meet essential job functions.
As a member of the Michaels team, you will have access to a robust benefits package including health insurance options, a 401(k) plan with employer match, employee discounts, and more, all designed to support your personal and professional well-being. The company is committed to continuous improvement and innovation, providing a platform for team members to grow and thrive in a customer-oriented culture. Join Michaels to help fuel creativity and joy in your community while advancing your career in retail and event coordination.
