The Event Coordinator role at the Ann Arbor, MI store is a dynamic and customer-focused position aimed at creating memorable, fun, and stress-free events within the Michaels store environment. This role is instrumental in planning, coordinating, and executing multiple events simultaneously, including children’s birthday parties and other craft classes. The position demands a person who is energetic and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills to engage guests across all ages, from young children to adults. Key responsibilities include facilitating craft activities, providing face painting, managing event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, and maintaining communication with clients and store teams to ensure smooth event execution and customer satisfaction.

In addition to event planning, the Event Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service in the retail setting, assisting customers in finding products, providing solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. The role also involves operational duties such as truck unload, stocking, planogram maintenance, store recovery, and participation in shrink and safety programs. Team members in this position are also cross-trained in custom framing sales and production and support daily store cleanliness and maintenance tasks to uphold the company's high operational standards.

Working at Michaels requires the ability to stand for long periods, move throughout the store, lift heavy items, and manage physical tasks related to store operations. The store environment is mainly climate controlled with some areas like stockrooms potentially not climate controlled. Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events including children's birthday parties and craft classes
  • engage with clients of all ages by creating a fun and creative environment
  • demonstrate and instruct party participants in craft projects and activities such as face painting
  • facilitate party add-ons like goody bags and balloons according to company standards
  • communicate event details with clients and store team members
  • complete administrative tasks including answering emails, phone calls, and paperwork
  • adjust plans based on client feedback and needs
  • create backup plans for emergencies
  • ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
  • uphold company cleanliness and safety standards by setting up, breaking down, and cleaning before and after events
  • help customers shop and locate products
  • provide fast and friendly checkout experiences
  • engage customers in rewards programs and complete enrollments
  • educate customers on Voice of Customer survey
  • assist with omnichannel processes including BOPIS and Ship From Store
  • participate in truck unload, stocking, and planogram processes
  • complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • perform store in stock optimization and AD set duties
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • adhere to standard operating procedures and company policies
  • interact respectfully with others and promote company values
  • cross train in custom framing sales and production
