Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is the premier destination for all things creative, celebrating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada as well as a vibrant online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to become North America's leading arts and crafts retailer, specializing in a vast array of creative supplies, custom framing, and specialty merchandise through its subsidiary Artistree. The company thrives on its mission to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, offering a welcoming and supportive environment for both customers and employees. With a strong commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity, Michaels fosters a culture of teamwork, innovation, and community engagement, making it a sought-after employer for individuals passionate about creativity and community involvement.
This role is based at the Michaels Store located in Sea-Lake Stevens, WA, an energetic and friendly setting dedicated to delivering exceptional customer experiences. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events, such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring guests enjoy a stress-free, fun, and memorable time. The Event Coordinator will also provide outstanding customer service by assisting shoppers with product selection and ensuring an efficient checkout process. Beyond event management, responsibilities include executing store operational tasks such as truck unloads, merchandise handling, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold Michaels’ Brand Promises.
As an Event Coordinator at Michaels, you will juggle multiple responsibilities — orchestrating engaging events that cater to guests aged 4 to 94, demonstrating craft project instructions, and handling party add-ons like balloons and goody bags to company standards. You will be the bridge between clients and the store team, managing communications and administrative duties to ensure smooth event execution. Adaptability is critical, as you will be required to modify plans based on client feedback and prepare emergency backup plans. Your attention to detail will ensure the cleanliness and safety of the store before, during, and after each event, promoting a welcoming environment for all attendees.
Customer experience is at the heart of this role. You will assist customers in locating products, provide guidance on product benefits, and facilitate the use of rewards programs and private label credit cards. Supporting omni-channel sales processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) will also be part of your daily activities. The position requires active participation in operational tasks such as truck unloads, stocking, planogram compliance, merchandise recovery, and store optimization. You will uphold safety and shrink control programs while adhering strictly to company policies and legal requirements. This role also demands professionalism, positivity, and respectfulness, enhancing the store’s team culture and serving as a role model for colleagues.
Ideal candidates bring an energetic and enthusiastic personality with excellent people skills and experience working with children’s events. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, along with organizational and creative problem-solving abilities, are essential. Retail or customer service experience is required to thrive in this fast-paced environment. The physical demands include standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and accessing high shelves safely. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings, and the environment combines climate-controlled public areas with stockrooms and occasional outdoor tasks.
Michaels values its team members’ well-being and offers a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The position offers a total base pay range from $17.13 to $20.00 per hour. Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to support all employees in performing their job functions effectively. Joining Michaels means becoming part of a community dedicated to creating, innovating, and supporting one another for mutual success and joy in creativity.
