Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination in North America dedicated to providing a comprehensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and seasonal décor. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company stands out as the premier place for creativity, offering products and services that inspire individuals and families to express themselves through craft and artistic projects. Michaels also owns Artistree, a notable manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, adding to its extensive portfolio aimed at fueling the joy of creativity and celebrations. With a commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity, Michaels prioritizes creating an inviting and supportive environment for its team members and customers alike.
This role is based in the DET-TROY, MI store and is focused on event coordination and delivering outstanding customer experiences within the retail environment. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating a variety of events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for creativity, customer service, and event management all within the vibrant setting of a Michaels store. Your role will significantly contribute to ensuring a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests of all ages.
Key responsibilities include executing event logistics such as party planning, client communication, and administrative tasks. You will engage participants by demonstrating craft projects, performing face painting, and managing party add-ons including goody bags and balloons, ensuring all activities meet company standards. Additionally, you will uphold cleanliness and safety throughout each event by preparing spaces before and after activities.
Beyond event coordination, the role involves frontline customer service duties like assisting customers in shopping, locating products, and providing solutions. You will be expected to deliver fast and friendly checkout experiences, promote the store’s Rewards program and credit card enrollments, and educate customers about feedback surveys to enhance service quality. Operational duties such as truck unloads, stocking, merchandise recovery, and adherence to company policies and safety programs are also integral to this position.
The environment requires a dynamic personality with excellent communication and organizational skills, a strong ability to handle stress, and a commitment to positive customer interactions. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and moving throughout the store. Michaels is committed to supporting team members with reasonable accommodations to perform their duties effectively.
Michaels offers robust benefits to both full-time and part-time team members, including health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision plans, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. This aligns with their commitment to the well-being and development of their workforce. As an equal opportunity employer, Michaels embraces diversity and inclusion, making it an excellent workplace for individuals who are passionate about creativity, customer service, and community engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and enjoys bringing people together through fun, creative activities.
