Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the go-to retailer for arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and a variety of creative projects. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. At Michaels, the mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, providing customers with quality products and experiences that inspire artistic expression and memorable moments.
This opportunity is for an event coordinator and customer experience associate at the Michaels store located in Burlington, Massachusetts. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events hosted at the store, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other engaging activities designed to provide customers of all ages with a fun, stress-free, and creative environment. The job emphasizes delivering exceptional customer service by assisting guests in shopping for products, providing solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout process. The position operates within a public retail store setting and requires involvement in operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, and maintaining store recovery and cleanliness standards.
As an event coordinator, the role requires multitasking between multiple scheduled events and adapting plans based on client feedback and needs. The candidate will engage participants by instructing craft projects, performing face painting, and facilitating party add-ons like goody bags and balloons while upholding the company’s cleanliness and safety guidelines. Administrative responsibilities include managing communications via emails, phone calls, and paperwork related to the events.
In terms of customer experience, the associate will actively engage customers by explaining the benefits of Michaels’ Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, enrolling customers, and educating them on Voice of Customer (VOC) surveys. The role supports omni-channel retail initiatives by assisting in Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes. Additionally, the associate will participate in inventory management including truck unloading, stocking, planogram execution, merchandise recovery, and store cleanliness, thus contributing to overall operational efficiency.
Successful candidates for this position should be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess excellent people skills. Experience working with children and managing children’s events is essential, along with strong written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills. Organizational and creative problem-solving skills are critical to handling diverse event schedules and customer needs effectively. The position offers a total base pay range of $15.00 to $17.70 per hour.
Michaels emphasizes a supportive work environment reflecting respect and acceptance, promoting a positive image and teamwork. Physical demands include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy boxes, use ladders for accessing high shelves, and perform regular movements throughout the store. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Michaels also proudly provides robust benefits to both full-time and part-time team members, including health insurance options (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. For those passionate about creativity and looking to join a dynamic, customer-focused retail environment with a strong commitment to team wellbeing and diversity, this role offers a meaningful and engaging career path.
