Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading specialty retailer in North America, known for fostering creativity and celebration through its extensive range of arts and crafts products. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, alongside a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Beyond retail, the company owns Artistree, a renowned manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, enhancing its comprehensive product offerings to customers. Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for creative expression, providing diverse materials and resources for artists and hobbyists alike.
At Michaels, the work environment reflects a dynamic, customer-focused retail setting aimed at delivering exceptional service while inspiring artistic ventures. The company prioritizes inclusivity, equal opportunity, and supports employees with accommodations to ensure a welcoming and productive workplace. With competitive benefits including health insurance, paid time off, and tuition assistance, Michaels is committed to supporting the personal and professional growth of its team members.
This position is for an Event Coordinator within the Allentown-Bethlehem, PA Michaels store. This full-service retail location is dedicated to providing customers with a creative and enjoyable shopping experience while facilitating engaging community events. The role primarily involves planning, coordinating, and executing multiple events simultaneously—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—to create memorable and stress-free experiences for guests of all ages. The Event Coordinator will serve as the key point of contact for clients throughout the event lifecycle, handling everything from crafting activities and face painting to organizing party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons. This position demands excellent organizational ability, creative problem-solving skills, and a passion for customer engagement to foster an environment that is both fun and inspiring.
Moreover, this role entails supporting daily store operations including assisting customers, completing merchandise and recovery tasks, and ensuring a smooth checkout process. The coordinator will work collaboratively with store teams to maintain cleanliness, safety, and brand standards, embodying the company’s vision and values. Through active participation in promotional programs like the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, as well as omni-channel processes such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), the Event Coordinator contributes significantly to building customer loyalty and enhancing overall store performance.
This position requires physical stamina due to standing for extended periods, frequent bending, lifting, and reaching, including handling heavy boxes and accessing items on high shelves. The work environment is primarily retail-focused, with climate-controlled public areas but occasional outdoor work and stockroom tasks. Flexibility with work hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings, is essential. Michaels’ commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures that all team members have access to reasonable accommodations to perform their duties effectively.
Joining Michaels as an Event Coordinator offers a unique opportunity to integrate creativity, customer service, and event management within a supportive and growth-oriented environment. If you have an energetic and enthusiastic personality, enjoy working with children, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, this role could be an excellent fit to fuel your passion for creativity while advancing your retail career.
