Job Description
Michaels is a premier retail company dedicated to fostering creativity and celebration, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is North America's leading destination for arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and seasonal décor. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. At Michaels, the mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration for millions of customers by providing a wide variety of products and engaging experiences in-store and online. Michaels values inclusivity, teamwork, and the well-being of its employees, offering comprehensive benefits to both full-time and part-time team members. These benefits include health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision, paid time off, tuition assistance, employee discounts, and more.
This role is based in the NWK-Clifton, New Jersey store location and is centered around event coordination, customer service, and operational support within a dynamic retail environment. The Event Coordinator at Michaels plays a vital role in creating memorable, stress-free experiences by planning and facilitating multiple events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This position requires a personable and energetic individual skilled in engaging with clients of all ages, from young children to seniors, fostering an environment of fun and creativity. The Coordinator is responsible for demonstrating and instructing craft projects, performing activities such as face painting, and managing event add-ons like goody bags and balloons to ensure company standards are met.
Beyond event management, the role involves delivering exceptional customer service by assisting guests with product selection, helping with checkouts, and educating customers about the store's rewards programs and credit card offerings. The coordinator also supports daily operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, planogram processes, store cleanliness, and recovery efforts to maintain the brand's high standards. The position requires adherence to company policies, safety programs, and standard operating procedures to guarantee compliance and promote a positive, respectful work environment.
The ability to handle job stress effectively while maintaining excellent communication and interpersonal skills is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience working with children and in customer-facing retail roles, be highly organized, and possess creative problem-solving capabilities. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, and lifting heavy items, sometimes requiring the use of ladders or other equipment. Michaels emphasizes the importance of providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job. This role offers hourly pay ranging between $16.25 and $19.10, aligning with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
Michaels invites applicants who are passionate about creativity and customer engagement to join a team dedicated to inspiring others. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and fostering an inclusive culture where all team members and customers feel valued and supported. Join Michaels to contribute to a vibrant retail store environment where creativity, community, and excellence intersect.
