Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is renowned for providing an extensive range of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing merchandise, and creative inspiration to millions of customers. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing products. Michaels has built its reputation on fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by offering high-quality products and exceptional customer experiences in stores and online.
The role offered at the Michaels store located in Akron-Fairlawn, OH, focuses on event coordination within a retail environment, combining customer service with creative event planning. This position is full-time or part-time and offers a total base pay range of $11.00 to $13.00 per hour. The role primarily involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events including children's birthday parties and other craft classes or workshops to provide an engaging and memorable experience for guests of all ages. The event coordinator also plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in the store and ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
This position requires someone with an energetic and enthusiastic personality, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people of all ages. Candidates will be responsible for organizing multiple events simultaneously, demonstrating craft projects, and managing event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons to company standards. Additionally, strong communication skills are essential as the role involves coordinating with clients and store team members, adjusting event plans according to client feedback, and handling administrative tasks like answering emails and making phone calls.
Beyond event management, the role entails assisting customers with shopping, providing product solutions, delivering fast and friendly checkout service, and educating customers about rewards programs and surveys. The job also includes stock management responsibilities such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, planogram execution, and maintaining store recovery standards. Candidates must promote a positive image of the company, adhere to safety protocols, and participate in retail and customer service activities such as cleaning and shrink prevention programs.
Michaels prioritizes the wellbeing of its team members, offering robust benefits to full-time and part-time employees including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is committed to equal opportunity and inclusion, ensuring reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified individuals. Prospective candidates with a passion for creativity and customer service, along with retail experience and the ability to handle job-related physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and working in various store environments, will find this position rewarding and fulfilling.
