Job Description
Michaels is a leading specialty retailer in the arts and crafts industry, dedicated to empowering creativity and celebration across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, providing a comprehensive range of crafting supplies, framing, floral, decor, and seasonal merchandise both in-store and online. As a trusted destination for DIY enthusiasts, professionals, and families alike, Michaels is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where people of all ages and skill levels can find inspiration and support to create meaningful projects. Michaels is also the parent company of Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing products, further expanding its footprint in the crafting community.
At the Colorado Springs Lake Ave location, the company seeks a part-time Event Coordinator and Customer Service team member to enhance in-store experience through engaging and flawlessly executed events. This unique role blends event planning with front-line customer interaction, focusing on facilitating memorable events like childrens birthday parties and various craft classes. The position demands a dynamic individual who can creatively and efficiently organize multiple events simultaneously while delivering exceptional service. The coordinator is instrumental in planning, executing, and refining events that appeal to a broad demographic—from young children to seniors—ensuring a fun, stress-free, and inspiring atmosphere that aligns with Michaels’ brand promises.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and possesses an energetic and enthusiastic personality with excellent communication skills. They act as the face of Michaels in the event space and on the sales floor, guiding customers, processing transactions swiftly, and promoting Michaels’ rewards program and credit cards. Beyond the operational aspects of retail, including merchandising, stock replenishment, and inventory management, the role is deeply involved in creating and maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting store environment. This includes responsibilities like unloading trucks, merchandising duties, and participating in store recovery standards.
Administrative competency is also essential, as the role involves managing communications with clients and team members, performing follow-up tasks such as answering emails, managing phone inquiries, and executing paperwork efficiently. Flexibility is key, with the ability to adapt events based on client feedback and contingencies through backup plans. Additionally, the coordinator is cross-trained in custom framing, broadening their skill set to support various store departments.
Michaels prioritizes diversity and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations to ensure all team members can perform their roles effectively. The company provides a supportive culture dedicated to employee wellbeing, with robust benefits available even to part-time team members including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The role at this Colorado Springs location offers a fantastic opportunity to join a creative leader in retail, contribute to community engagement through craft events, and develop diverse skills in event management and customer service within a respected national brand.
