Job Description
The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has become a premier destination for creative enthusiasts and professional crafters alike. The company also owns Artistree, a specialty framing merchandise manufacturer, solidifying its position as a one-stop shop for all creative needs. Michaels strives to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by connecting customers with a vast assortment of arts and crafts supplies, seasonal décor, framing services, and engaging community events.
Within a bustling Michaels store in Bay-Fremont, CA, the role of Event Coordinator presents a rewarding opportunity to combine creativity, customer service, and organizational skills. This position balances multiple responsibilities, from planning and coordinating children’s birthday parties and craft events to providing excellent customer experiences on the sales floor. The Event Coordinator ensures that customers enjoy a fun, stress-free, and memorable event, taking charge of the entire event lifecycle — from conception and customer communication through execution and clean up. Moreover, they assist shoppers by helping them find products and offering solutions, while ensuring quick and friendly checkout processes.
This role requires a diligent and energetic individual who can engage clients ranging in age from young children to seniors, fostering an environment of creativity and enjoyment. Duties also include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, and managing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons. The Event Coordinator works closely with the store team to maintain high cleanliness and safety standards, perform stock and merchandise recovery tasks, and assist with operational procedures such as receiving shipments and stocking shelves.
The position demands excellent interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and customer service experience, particularly with children’s events. Candidates are expected to have a knack for problem-solving and adapting to client feedback to ensure event quality and customer satisfaction. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, perform regular bending, lifting, and reaching, sometimes using ladders or other equipment. The work environment blends indoor retail with some outdoor activity, including truck unloading and cart retrieval, requiring stamina and responsiveness.
The compensation for this position ranges from $17.75 to $20.90 per hour. At Michaels, both full-time and part-time team members benefit from extensive programs, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and attractive employee discounts, fostering a supportive workplace where creativity and teamwork thrive. Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations for team members and applicants with disabilities. Join a company that champions innovation and creativity while serving a diverse customer base and participating in a vibrant retail community.
