Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail establishment specializing in arts and crafts supplies, creative products, and custom framing services. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, making it one of North America's premier destinations for creativity and celebration. The company is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by offering an extensive range of high-quality crafting materials, project ideas, and personalized framing services. Michaels is committed to providing an inclusive environment for both its employees and customers, ensuring everyone can innovate and express themselves through arts and crafts. The company offers robust benefits including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, reflecting their dedication to the well-being of their team members.
This role is based at the Michaels store located in Pitt-Pleasant Hills, PA, and it primarily focuses on event coordination and customer service within the retail environment. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various store events, including children’s birthday parties and crafting classes, to ensure guests have a stress-free and engaging experience. A significant part of the role is to deliver exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, providing helpful solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout process. The role also includes operational tasks such as merchandise stocking, truck unloading, maintaining store cleanliness, and supporting safety and shrink programs to uphold store standards and brand promises.
In this hands-on, dynamic position, the successful candidate will be a pivotal part of creating memorable crafting experiences for customers of all ages—ranging from young children to seniors. They will facilitate craft project instruction, conduct face painting, manage party add-ons such as balloons and goody bags, and handle administrative tasks like scheduling, communications, and paperwork. Additionally, this role demands strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse clients, adjust plans based on feedback, and create contingency plans to ensure smooth event execution.
The role requires an energetic and enthusiastic personality capable of handling job stress effectively while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude towards customers and team members. Experience working with children and conducting children-friendly events is highly preferred, alongside retail or customer service experience. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—good organizational abilities, and a knack for creative problem-solving. Being cross-trained in custom framing sales and production is considered a plus, enhancing the overall customer experience.
Physically, the position requires the ability to remain standing for extended periods, move throughout the store, and perform tasks involving bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching, including handling heavy boxes and using ladders for high shelves. The work environment includes a public retail store setting that is mostly climate-controlled and includes various physical activity requirements. Work hours may involve nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting retail operational needs.
Overall, this role offers the opportunity to join a company devoted to creativity and community engagement, with a strong emphasis on customer service, event coordination, and operational excellence within a supportive and inclusive workplace.
