Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination for arts and crafts supplies, with a rich history dating back to 1973. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. As the premier supplier of crafting materials, custom framing, and creative project inspiration, Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for millions of customers. The company is also known for its subsidiary, Artistree, which specializes in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding Michaels' comprehensive offering for hobbyists and professionals alike. Michaels emphasizes a welcoming environment for all customers and team members, striving to foster innovation, inclusivity, and support in everything they do. This commitment extends not only to their product offerings but also to the workplace culture, where employee well-being and equal opportunity are paramount.

This position is for an Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located in Coon Rapids, MN. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes, to create engaging and stress-free experiences for guests. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for delivering excellent customer service, assisting shoppers in locating products, and ensuring smooth and friendly checkout experiences. This is a part-time role with a base pay range of $12.00 to $14.10 per hour.

The Event Coordinator must handle multiple events simultaneously, engaging a diverse age group from children to seniors, by fostering a fun and creative atmosphere. The position requires skills in instructing craft projects, performing activities like face painting, and managing event add-ons such as goody bags and balloons. The coordinator will also manage administrative tasks including client communication via phone and email, documentation, and event adjustments based on feedback. Maintaining store cleanliness and safety during events, setting up and breaking down event areas, and ensuring compliance with company policies and standards are integral to this role.

Customer experience is a vital part of the position. The coordinator will assist customers in navigating product selections, explain benefits of membership and credit programs, and educate guests about feedback surveys. Additional responsibilities include supporting omnichannel retail activities like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS), performing merchandise recovery, stocking, planogram adherence, and store safety initiatives. The role also involves cross-training in custom framing sales and production.

This job demands an energetic and enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of managing stress and interacting effectively with a broad spectrum of guests and co-workers. Experience in retail, customer service, and working with children’s events is required. Physical demands include the ability to stand for extended periods, lifting boxes, and using ladders for stocking. The environment is a public retail setting that is mostly climate controlled with some outdoor and stockroom work. The company promotes diversity and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities. Michaels provides robust benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. This role is essential to delivering the brand promise of creativity and customer satisfaction at Michaels.
