Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc., headquartered in Irving, Texas, is the leading destination in North America for creativity and celebration. Operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a robust online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, Michaels has established itself as the best place for all things creative. Founded in 1973, the company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is committed to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for its customers and team members alike, providing a diverse array of products, classes, and events that enable everyone to explore their artistic passions and make memorable moments.
Joining Michaels as an Event Coordinator in their La Brea, CA store provides a unique opportunity to be part of this dynamic retail environment dedicated to customer satisfaction and creativity. This role focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating engaging events within the store, such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring each event is stress-free, enjoyable, and memorable for guests. The position demands an energetic and enthusiastic personality, with the ability to handle multiple events simultaneously and interact positively with clients of all ages, from young children to seniors.
As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products and providing a fast, friendly checkout experience. This role also involves operational tasks like unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, and maintaining store organization to meet company brand standards. A significant part of the position includes planning and executing creative activities during events, such as demonstrating craft projects and performing face painting, along with managing party add-ons like goody bags and balloons to maintain consistent quality standards.
You will engage with customers by educating them about the Rewards program, private label credit cards, and encouraging participation in customer satisfaction surveys. The role requires administrative prowess to handle communications, manage client feedback, and swiftly adjust event plans as necessary. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is essential to uphold the company’s image and provide a welcoming environment.
Michaels places a strong emphasis on teamwork, respect, and professionalism. You will be expected to collaborate effectively with store team members, adhere to Standard Operating Procedures for compliance and safety, and contribute positively to the store's atmosphere. Cross-training in Custom Framing sales and production is part of the job, enhancing your skills and value within the company.
This position requires the ability to stand for long periods, move throughout the store, and perform physical tasks such as lifting and reaching. The work environment is primarily a public retail store setting with climate-controlled customer areas, some non-climate-controlled stock rooms, and occasional outdoor tasks. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings, supporting the diverse operational needs of the store.
The pay range for this role is $18.75 to $22.00 per hour, reflecting the company's commitment to offering competitive compensation. Michaels also excels in caring for its full-time and part-time team members by providing robust benefits including health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision; paid time off; tuition assistance; generous employee discounts; and more, supporting the wellbeing and growth of its workforce.
Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to inclusion and diversity, ensuring reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, and adherence to legal requirements such as the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act regarding criminal history considerations. This position offers a rewarding blend of customer interaction, event management, and retail operations within a supportive and creative environment, perfect for those passionate about crafting joyful experiences and delivering excellent service.
