Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail company with a strong footprint across North America, operating over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, in addition to an online presence. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels serves as the go-to destination for creativity, crafting, and celebration. The company is well-known for providing a vast selection of arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and a variety of creative classes and events designed to engage and inspire guests of all ages. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding the company’s offering to customers seeking unique, personalized creative solutions. Michaels’ mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, underpinning their commitment to creating an inviting and inclusive environment for both customers and Team Members.

This position is based within a Michaels store located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and primarily focuses on event coordination alongside delivering outstanding customer service. This role is vital in ensuring guests enjoy a memorable and stress-free experience when participating in events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes, which the store frequently hosts. The Event Coordinator is responsible for planning, facilitating, and managing multiple events concurrently, ensuring each occasion runs smoothly from start to finish. The candidate will create an engaging atmosphere that fosters fun and creativity for participants across all age groups. Additional responsibilities include providing friendly assistance during customer shopping experiences, offering product solutions, facilitating checkout with speed and kindness, and supporting operational store functions like unloading deliveries, merchandise stocking, and maintaining store presentation and safety standards.

The role blends creativity, organization, customer interaction, and operational efficiency, making it ideal for energetic, people-oriented individuals who thrive in a retail environment. The Event Coordinator will be tasked with managing both the logistics and the client communication for events, including establishing backup plans and adjusting event details based on feedback to guarantee client satisfaction. Tasks encompass hands-on activities such as demonstrating craft projects, face painting, and setting up party add-ons, alongside administrative duties like responding to emails and keeping records. This position requires excellent communication skills, an ability to multitask, and a strong customer service ethic. The candidate will also participate in promoting the store’s rewards programs, driving customer engagement with loyalty initiatives, and contributing to daily store upkeep and safety programs.

Michaels offers a supportive work environment with an emphasis on employee wellbeing through comprehensive benefits packages, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous discounts. The store environment is public-facing, climate-controlled in customer areas, and includes some physical work such as lifting and stocking. Michaels is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusion and accessible accommodations for all qualified individuals. This role offers an exciting opportunity to blend creativity and customer service while advancing in a respected, well-established retail company.
