The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America. With over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, they provide a wide range of arts and crafts supplies to inspire creativity in people of all ages. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is renowned for being the best place for all things creative. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels prioritizes the wellbeing of its team members by offering robust benefits including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. They are committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports all team members and customers, promoting creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
This role at the Michaels store in ORL-LEE VISTA, FL, focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating events to create a fun and engaging experience for guests, including children’s birthday parties and various craft events. The position combines creative event management with exceptional customer service, ensuring every guest interaction is positive and productive. Event Coordinators at Michaels will manage multiple events, engage with clients of all ages, and oversee party activities such as craft project instruction and face painting. They also handle party add-ons including goody bags and balloons, ensuring events meet company standards. Communication with clients and store team members is essential, as is managing administrative tasks like answering emails and phone calls.
In addition to event responsibilities, team members support daily store operations. This includes helping customers find products, providing speedy and friendly checkout experiences, and educating customers about the store’s rewards programs and credit cards. The role also involves assisting with omnichannel services such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), participating in unloading trucks, merchandise stocking, and maintaining store standards. The Event Coordinator’s duties extend to supporting shrink and safety programs, adhering to store policies, and fostering a respectful and positive environment for both customers and team members. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production is part of the development to enhance product knowledge and customer interaction capabilities.
The physical demands of the role include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and reaching. Handling heavy boxes and using ladders for high shelves is required occasionally. The work environment is primarily a public retail setting that is climate controlled, with some stockroom and outdoor activities. Hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings, offering a dynamic and fast-paced retail experience.
Michaels is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to the inclusion of qualified individuals and providing reasonable accommodations as needed. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine creativity, event planning, and retail customer service within a supportive, innovative company environment.
