Job Description
The Michaels Companies, Inc. is a renowned leader in the arts and crafts retail industry across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates more than 1,300 stores across 49 states plus Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is celebrated for being the ultimate destination for creative minds, offering a vast selection of crafting supplies, custom framing, and creative products. In addition to its retail footprint, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels' mission centers on fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for its customers and communities. The company fosters a vibrant and inclusive culture that prioritizes creativity, innovation, and the well-being of its team members. It actively supports employee growth through comprehensive benefits programs designed for both full-time and part-time employees, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Michaels believes in equal opportunity employment and full inclusion, ensuring accommodations and support for all qualified individuals throughout the employment process and job performance.
This role is based in the Michaels store located in Interbay, Seattle, WA, and offers a total base pay range of $21.75 to $25.00 per hour. The position is focused on event coordination and delivering an exceptional customer experience. The primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate various events within the store, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The goal is to create a stress-free, enjoyable, and engaging atmosphere for guests of all ages, from young children to seniors. The Event Coordinator is tasked with providing friendly and knowledgeable customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products and solutions, ensuring a smooth checkout process, and maintaining store standards.
This position requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members alike. The Event Coordinator manages all aspects of event logistics, such as party demonstrations, face painting, craft instruction, and the implementation of party add-ons like goody bags and balloons. Administrative responsibilities include managing client communication through emails and phone calls, preparing event paperwork, adjusting event plans based on client feedback, and creating backup plans to handle unexpected situations.
In addition to event coordination, this role involves active participation in the store’s operational functions. This includes unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining the store’s presentation via planograms and merchandise recovery, assisting with omnichannel retail processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and supporting safety and loss prevention measures. The job also entails cross-training in custom framing sales and production. A key element of the position is promoting customer engagement in programs like the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card enrollments, along with educating customers about the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey.
The work environment is dynamic and customer-facing, involving standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and occasionally working in stockrooms or outdoor settings. The ability to handle the physical requirements safely and to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and early mornings is essential. The Michaels team values positivity, respect, and inclusivity, expecting team members to model these qualities and foster a welcoming environment.
This role provides a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about crafting, customer service, and event planning to thrive in a supportive and creative retail setting. Through this position, Michaels continues to uphold its brand promise of creativity and community engagement, making it an ideal place for those seeking meaningful employment that combines fun, creativity, and professional growth.
