Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retailer specializing in arts and crafts, known for being the ultimate destination for creative enthusiasts and celebratory moments across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores throughout 49 states in the US and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Additionally, the company owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels prides itself on offering a vast variety of crafting supplies, frames, and inspiration for customers of all ages and skill levels, making it the perfect place for hobbyists and professional artists alike.
At Michaels, the mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by providing exceptional products, events, and services that inspire imagination and bring communities together. The company values inclusivity, creativity, and customer engagement, fostering an environment where both team members and customers can thrive in their artistic pursuits. Michaels supports its employees with comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, generous employee discounts, and much more. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to creating a workplace where diversity and inclusion are fundamental principles, committing to reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to enable full participation in the workforce.
The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store in College Station, TX, is an exciting opportunity that blends customer service with event management in a dynamic retail environment. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including childrens birthday parties and craft classes, to provide a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests. This position requires a balance of creativity, organizational skills, and interpersonal communication, as well as a passion for crafting and customer interaction.
In this role, you will engage with clients of all age groups, fostering an atmosphere of creativity and fun. You will demonstrate and instruct participants in various craft projects, facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons, and ensure each event runs smoothly and meets company standards. Effective communication with clients and store team members is key, as is handling administrative tasks like answering emails, making calls, and managing paperwork. Flexibility is important, as you may need to adjust plans based on client feedback or unexpected circumstances, and you will be expected to create contingency plans to ensure client satisfaction.
Besides event coordination, you will also contribute to the overall customer experience by assisting shoppers with product selection, providing fast and friendly checkout service, promoting the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, and supporting Omni channel processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, maintaining planogram standards, and store recovery duties will also be part of your daily responsibilities. You will uphold the store’s cleanliness and safety standards, and occasionally engage in cross-training opportunities such as custom framing sales and production.
This position demands physical activities including standing for long periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, and reaching. You must be comfortable working in a retail store environment that includes public interaction, climate controlled areas, occasional outdoor duties, and shifts that may include nights, weekends, and early mornings. The role is ideal for an energetic and enthusiastic individual who is capable of managing stress effectively, possesses excellent people skills, is experienced in working with children and children’s events, and demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Joining Michaels means becoming part of a team that values creativity, teamwork, and dedication. The company’s comprehensive support system for employees, combined with the rewarding nature of helping customers celebrate and create, makes this an exciting and fulfilling opportunity for the right candidate.
