Job Description

Michaels Companies Inc., headquartered in Irving, Texas, is the leading destination for arts and crafts supplies in North America. Founded in 1973, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with a strong online presence. Michaels is known for fueling the joy of creativity and celebration by providing a broad range of products, services, and experiences that inspire its customers to create and innovate. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, extending Michaels' offerings into framing solutions as well. Michaels emphasizes an inclusive workplace culture that values creativity, diversity, and employee well-being while delivering exceptional customer service to its clientele. Robust benefits are provided to both full-time and part-time team members, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, among others. Candidates interested in joining Michaels will find a dynamic and supportive work environment dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering professional growth.

The Event Coordinator role at Michaels in Pearland, TX, is an engaging opportunity designed to combine excellent customer service with event planning expertise. The primary objective is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate various events within the store, including children’s birthday parties and crafting workshops, to ensure every guest enjoys a stress-free, fun, and creative experience. This role demands strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively as multiple events will often be planned and executed simultaneously. Event Coordinators are responsible for engaging clients of all ages by fostering an environment of creativity and enthusiasm, while also demonstrating and instructing fun craft projects and performing activities such as face painting.

In addition to event management, the coordinator will take care of operational tasks that support the smooth functioning of the store. This involves assisting customers with their shopping needs, delivering fast and friendly checkout experiences, supporting merchandise stocking and recovery, and adhering to company policies and safety standards. Coordinators will play an active role in administrative duties such as answering emails, making phone calls, and ensuring all event materials and settings meet company standards, including party add-ons like goody bags and balloons.

This position requires adaptability, as coordinators will need to adjust plans based on client feedback and be prepared with backup solutions to handle any unexpected challenges. Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment before, during, and after events is a crucial aspect of the role to uphold Michaels’ brand promise. Furthermore, coordinators will also engage customers in the store’s Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card benefits, enhancing the overall customer service experience.

Ideal candidates for this role bring energy, enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal skills, and specific experience working with children and children’s events. Strong communication abilities—in written, verbal, and nonverbal forms—are essential, as is the capability to positively handle job stress while promoting the company’s vision and values. The role includes physical demands such as standing for prolonged periods, bending, lifting, and moving throughout the store, including potential use of ladders for accessing merchandise.

Michaels is committed to fully including qualified individuals and assures reasonable accommodations for disabilities to support applicants and employees. By joining Michaels as an Event Coordinator, individuals step into a vibrant environment dedicated to creativity, customer engagement, and collaborative success, aligned with the company’s purpose of inspiring everyone to create, innovate, and celebrate.
