Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain headquartered in Irving, Texas, with over 1,300 stores across the United States and Canada. Since its founding in 1973, Michaels has become the premier destination for creative enthusiasts of all ages, offering a wide range of crafting supplies, custom framing, home décor, and seasonal products. The company prides itself on fostering a welcoming and inspiring environment for customers to explore and express their creativity. Michaels is dedicated to inclusivity, community engagement, and supporting its team members through numerous benefits and development opportunities. The retail environment is a blend of fast-paced customer service with a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences centered around creativity and celebration.

The role of Event Coordinator at the Michaels store located in Lexington-Pavilion Way, KY, is a dynamic and multifaceted position focused on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. This role is pivotal in creating engaging, stress-free, and memorable experiences for guests of all ages—from young children to seniors. The Event Coordinator is responsible not only for the execution of well-planned events but also for ensuring that every customer interaction is positive, friendly, and helpful. This includes assisting customers with shopping needs, providing product solutions, and delivering a fast and friendly checkout experience.

In this position, the coordinator will engage clients by leading craft project instructions, performing face painting, and managing party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons. They must be highly organized to manage multiple events simultaneously, communicate effectively with clients and team members, and adapt plans based on customer feedback. Beyond event management, the role involves completing operational duties like unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining the store's cleanliness, and supporting shrink and safety programs. The digital components of the customer experience are also important, including assisting with Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) orders.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess strong interpersonal skills, with experience in retail or customer service and a special proficiency in working with children’s events. The role requires physical stamina, including standing for prolonged periods, bending, lifting, and reaching, often using ladders. Working hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings, intended to support a busy retail and event schedule. Michaels fosters a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, offering full and part-time team members robust benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is committed to equal employment opportunities and providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, reinforcing their mission to inspire creativity with care and respect for all team members and customers.
