Job Description
Michaels is the leading arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to become the premier destination for creativity and celebration. It offers an extensive assortment of supplies for DIY projects, arts and crafts, framing, and home décor. Alongside its retail presence, Michaels also operates online shopping platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca, providing customers convenient access to its wide product range. Additionally, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further solidifying its footprint in the craft and framing industry. As a company, Michaels is dedicated to fueling joy and creativity in communities through its products, services, and events. With a commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity, Michaels strives to provide a welcoming environment for both employees and customers, ensuring accessibility and accommodation needs are met throughout its operations.
The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels offers an exciting opportunity within a retail environment focused on creativity and customer engagement. Situated in the Prosper, Texas store, the Event Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering multiple events simultaneously, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. This position plays a key role in creating fun, interactive, and memorable experiences for guests of all ages, facilitating an atmosphere that encourages creative expression and community involvement. The coordinator oversees all aspects of events—from engaging directly with customers during parties by demonstrating craft techniques and activities such as face painting, to managing event add-ons like goody bags and balloons. Administrative tasks such as handling communications, adjusting event plans based on feedback, and preparing contingency strategies are also essential components of the job. Beyond event coordination, the role includes active participation in maintaining a high standard of customer service, assisting shoppers, supporting checkout processes, and fulfilling operational duties like merchandise stocking and store recovery.
This position demands excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, creativity, enthusiasm, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic retail setting. Candidates with experience working with children and managing events, along with strong communication abilities, will find this role rewarding. Physically, the job requires the ability to stand for long periods, move throughout the store, and perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and reaching. Michaels prioritizes team wellbeing by offering robust benefits including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and significant employee discounts. The company values diversity and inclusion and ensures reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. This role is ideal for energetic individuals passionate about arts and crafts who enjoy creating enriching customer experiences while contributing to a vibrant retail environment.
