Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is the leading destination for creativity and celebration in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, both in physical locations and online at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels specializes in arts and crafts supplies, custom framing, and a wide range of creative products. In addition to its retail presence, the company owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration, making it the go-to store for people who love to create, craft, and celebrate special moments. Known for its friendly atmosphere and helpful staff, Michaels offers customers an inspiring shopping experience full of opportunities to explore their creative potential. The company values inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer, committed to providing reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities to ensure a fully inclusive workplace environment.
This role is located at the Michaels store in Jax-Riverplace, FL, and focuses primarily on event coordination and customer service within the retail environment. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events simultaneously, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes, creating a fun and engaging experience for guests of all ages ranging from children to seniors. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for handling all aspects of event management, from initial planning to execution, ensuring client satisfaction and adherence to company standards. The role also includes performing various operational tasks such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise according to planograms, and maintaining store recovery and cleanliness standards. Customer interaction is a vital part of this job, as the coordinator helps guests find products, facilitates the checkout process, promotes rewards programs, and engages in customer feedback surveys. The position requires effective communication skills, organizational abilities, creativity in problem-solving, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic retail setting.
Team members in this role are expected to maintain a positive, respectful attitude, serving as role models within the store while supporting safety and shrink programs and adhering strictly to standard operating procedures. They must be enthusiastic, personable, and experienced in both retail and event coordination, especially those involving children’s activities. Physical demands include standing for long periods, bending, lifting, carrying heavy boxes, and using ladders as needed. Work is performed in a climate-controlled public retail setting with some exposure to non-climate-controlled stock rooms and occasional outdoor duties such as retrieving shopping carts or unloading trucks. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings to accommodate event schedules and store needs.
Michaels offers a comprehensive range of benefits to support employees and their families, including retirement plans with employer match, medical, dental, and vision insurance, telemedicine services, flexible spending accounts, tuition assistance, and adoption assistance. Team members also enjoy everyday perks like employee discounts and access to partner discount programs. The company is committed to fostering a collaborative, creative, and inclusive workplace where all team members can thrive and grow.
