Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a premier retailer of arts and crafts supplies, as well as custom framing services, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the go-to destination for individuals seeking creative inspiration and crafting materials. With a strong commitment to cultivating creativity and celebration, Michaels offers a welcoming environment for customers of all ages and skill levels. The store provides a wide array of products including art supplies, framing materials, seasonal decor, and DIY project kits, all designed to inspire and support creative endeavors.

The role available at the Michaels store in Highland, Indiana, involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating events, including children's birthday parties, within the store setting. This position is vital to ensuring that guests enjoy a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience. The Event Coordinator is responsible for creating an atmosphere of creativity and excitement, engaging clients of all ages—ranging from young children to senior participants—in craft projects, face painting, and other party activities. The coordinator handles multiple events simultaneously, ensuring that each party or class runs smoothly and meets company standards for quality and safety.

In addition to event facilitation, the role requires delivering excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with finding products, providing solutions, and ensuring a quick and friendly checkout experience. The Event Coordinator supports operational store duties such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining store recovery standards, and participating in store cleanliness and safety programs. The role also involves administrative work, including communicating with clients and team members via email and phone, managing paperwork, and adjusting plans based on client feedback. A key responsibility is to uphold the company’s brand promises and contribute positively to the in-store atmosphere by acting as a role model and embodying the organization’s vision and values.

This position demands someone energetic, organized, and personable with a passion for crafting and event planning. Experience in retail, customer service, and working with children’s events is highly preferred. The physical aspects of the role require standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and moving within the store, including using ladders for stock management. Michaels provides a supportive work environment with climate-controlled customer areas and opportunities for cross-training in areas such as Custom Framing. The company is committed to equal opportunity and inclusivity, offering reasonable accommodations to applicants and team members as needed.

Michaels provides a competitive set of benefits for its employees, which may include healthcare coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer match, employee assistance programs, tuition and adoption assistance, and employee discounts. By joining Michaels as an Event Coordinator, you become part of a dynamic and creative community dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration across North America.
