This particular role is for a part-time Event Coordinator position based at the Michaels store in Fresno-Blackstone, California. The role centers around planning, coordinating, and facilitating multiple events within the store, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other creative activities designed to provide a fun, stress-free, and engaging experience for guests of all ages. The Event Coordinator will be responsible not only for the seamless operation of these events but also for delivering exceptional customer service throughout the store. This means assisting customers in finding products, educating them on available rewards programs, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout process. Additionally, the role includes operational duties such as unloading trucks, merchandising, and maintaining store upkeep standards to align with Michaels’ brand promises.

Key aspects of this job involve direct interaction with clients and customers, ensuring their satisfaction by customizing events to suit individual needs and preferences. The Event Coordinator is expected to demonstrate creativity and excellent communication skills, facilitating craft projects, face painting, and other interactive activities. Administrative responsibilities include managing email correspondence, scheduling, and paperwork related to event coordination. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving around the store, and handling merchandise which involves bending, lifting, reaching, and the use of equipment such as ladders.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in event coordination or related role preferred
  • Ability to handle physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, and reaching
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and early mornings
  • Must comply with federal, state, and local legal employment requirements
  • Ability to safely use ladders and other store equipment
  • Must be able to engage positively with customers and team members
  • Ability to manage multiple events simultaneously

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events including children's birthday parties and other craft classes
  • Engage with clients of all ages by fostering an environment of fun and creativity
  • Demonstrate and instruct party participants in craft projects and activities such as face painting
  • Facilitate event add-ons like goody bags and balloons according to company standards
  • Communicate effectively with clients and store team members regarding event details
  • Complete administrative tasks including answering emails, making phone calls, and paperwork
  • Adjust event plans based on client feedback and needs
  • Create backup or emergency plans for events
  • Ensure client satisfaction and uphold cleanliness and safety standards
  • Assist customers with product location and provide shopping solutions
  • Provide fast and friendly checkout experiences
  • Promote and enroll customers in rewards programs and credit cards
  • Educate customers on the Voice of Customer survey
  • Support Omni channel processes including Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store
  • Participate in truck unloading, stocking, and planogram processes
  • Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • Adhere to company policies, SOPs, and legal requirements
  • Maintain store cleanliness including sweeping, vacuuming, and restroom upkeep
  • Cross-train in custom framing selling and production
  • Support shrink and safety programs
  • Serve as a positive role model for team members
