Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a prominent leader in North America's arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, alongside a comprehensive online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has built a reputation as the premier destination for creative expression and artistic celebrations, serving millions of customers passionate about crafting, custom framing, and creativity in general. In addition to retail, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing its ability to fulfill diverse customer needs. The company’s core mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration, making it an inspiring place to work for individuals enthusiastic about creativity and customer service.

The Event Coordinator role at Michaels, based in the Hartford-Manchester, CT store, plays a vital part in enhancing the customer experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating engaging events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This position offers a unique blend of creative event management, hands-on customer interaction, and retail operational responsibilities, providing a dynamic and fulfilling work environment for candidates who bring energy, enthusiasm, and organizational skills.

As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for delivering a stress-free and enjoyable experience for guests by orchestrating multiple events simultaneously, from initial planning to execution. This involves engaging with participants of all ages, demonstrating craft projects, facilitating party activities such as face painting and goody bags, and ensuring client satisfaction. Additionally, this role requires maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety throughout event operations, including setting up, breaking down, and cleaning.

Beyond event management, the role encompasses supporting overall store operations, including assisting customers with their shopping needs, providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, and promoting the store’s rewards program and private label credit cards. Participation in truck unloading, merchandise stocking, and maintaining the store’s visual merchandising standards (planograms) are also integral parts of the job. The Event Coordinator is expected to be cross-trained in Custom Framing selling and production to better support customers and the store’s diverse offerings.

This position requires excellent communication skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, alongside the capability to handle job stress and interact effectively with a diverse clientele and team members. Physical demands include standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and moving throughout the store, with work hours that may include nights, weekends, and early mornings in a public retail environment.

Michaels is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity, providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and ensuring a respectful and positive workplace culture. The total base pay range for this position is between $16.94 and $19.70 per hour, reflecting the importance Michaels places on rewarding the dedication and creativity of its team members.

Michaels also prioritizes the wellbeing of its team by offering a comprehensive benefits package to both full-time and part-time employees, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Working as an Event Coordinator at Michaels means joining a vibrant community dedicated to creativity, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
